American Airlines’ redesigned mobile app
American Airlines has introduced a series of digital upgrades to its mobile app, focusing on a more intuitive design and expanded functionality to support passengers from booking to arrival.
The updated app centers on a redesigned trip details page, acting as a hub where passengers can quickly access key features such as check-in, boarding passes and waitlist status. New navigation elements allow users to move seamlessly between flight information and trip management tools with fewer taps, according to information from a news release dated April 27.
Passengers can now manage a range of trip options directly within the app, including seat selection, upgrades, baggage, itinerary changes and special service requests. Disruption support is also integrated into affected flights, providing real-time updates and rebooking options when travel plans change.
“Our goal is to build digital tools our customers actually want to use every time they travel,” said CCO Heather Garboden in the release. “Each update builds toward a smoother, more connected experience that reflects how people actually travel today.”

Additional enhancements include the ability to purchase Priority Group 4 boarding during check-in through the app, offering earlier boarding access and improved overhead bin availability. Members of the AAdvantage loyalty program can also purchase additional miles at a reduced cost within the same workflow.
Looking ahead, the airline plans to introduce new features designed to further simplify the travel experience. These include airport wayfinding maps with estimated walking times between gates and the ability to split joint reservations into separate bookings directly in the app.
American says the ongoing evolution of its mobile platform reflects a broader strategy to create a real-time, end-to-end travel companion that reduces stress and improves passenger confidence throughout the journey.
