Crystal Cabin Award to honor sky-bound innovations

By Rachel Debling

The winners of the Crystal Cabin Award, the aircraft cabin and passenger service industry award that will review 91 products and innovations from 18 countries this year, will be announced on April 10 during the 2018 Aircraft Interiors Expo, held in Hamburg.

This will mark the 12th edition of the awards, which for the past five years has seen participation grow with each show. A panel of 28 jury members from all corners of the industry, ranging from journalists to engineers and aircraft manufacturers, will whittle the shortlisted products down to a handful of champions.

Singapore Airlines' A380 Suites featuring spacious double beds are on the Crystal Cabin Awards shortlist.

Not only are many recognizable names represented on the list of nominees – Boeing, Bombardier, Diehl, Rockwell Collins, Embraer, Gulfstream and Zodiac Aerospace, to name a few – but 10 concepts created by university students will also be highlighted, with one being crowned the 2018 winner.

The eight categories up for consideration are Cabin Concepts; Cabin Systems; IFEC; Greener Cabin, Health, Safety and Environment; Materials and Components; Passenger Comfort Hardware; Visionary Concepts; and University, the category in which student submissions will be judged.

The three finalists from each category will be announced in early March. Winners will be announced at a gala event in Hamburg’s Hotel Atlantic Kempinski on the evening of 10 April.
