Eco-friendly summer menu comes to China Airlines

China Airlines' summer inflight menu, which launched on July 1, is rife with summer-inspired fare and eco-friendly touches.

Tray-less service has been introduced on shorter routes as part of the airline's corporate environmental sustainability initiative, according to a press release, and grease-proof heatable paper boxes have been added to Economy Class service on Okinawa routes in an effort to reduce the amount of detergents and water used per flight. The boxes feature drawings designed by the executive chef at China Pacific Catering Services. Lighter meals such as minced pork and mushroom sauce with noodles and stir-fried shredded chicken with preserved vegetables over black rice have also been added to the menu.

Beginning in August, the airline will also be offering low-fat gelato in a variety of flavors on European routes including Rome, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Vienna and London, as well as new sparkling beverages made with fruit juice.

In Business Class, complimentary plum juice will be offered to passengers starting July 1. Other cool beverage options available to passengers in all classes include pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and sarsparilla.

Business Class cabins will also feature Chinese cultural banquets on Taipei-Pudong (Shanghai), Songshan-Hongqiao (Shanghai) and Taipei-Beijing routes, with Chef's Special Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup and Taiwanese Authentic DanZai Noodles, Scallop and Shrimp Wonton Noodles Soup Shanghai Style from Old Alley Restaurant in Shanghai on the menu.
