Thai Airways unveils commemorative amenity kit for Queen's birthday

By PAX International

The bag is made from woven sedge, a lightweight grass that is popular in Thailand

To celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on June 3, Thai Airways released a grey sedge (or krajood) amenity kit to Royal Silk Class passengers traveling on outbound international flights more than four hours in duration (except for flights to Australia and New Zealand).

The woven bags are local OTOP (One Tambon One Product) products by the sedge weaving group in Ban Map Lao Cha On, Chak Phong sub-district, Klang district, Rayong province.

Sedge mat weaving is a traditional handicraft from the Ban Map Lao Cha On village, which has an abundance of sedge in the Sam Nak Yai marsh. Sedge has been used for binding, weaving sacks and making royal tributes since the Ayutthaya period.
