SEKISUI SPI launches advanced polymer

By PAX International

SEKISUI SPI recently launched KYDEX® FST, a polycarbonate thermoplastic sheet for the production of aircraft interior components.

The advanced polymer has the color capabilities of SEKISUI SPI’s designLab®, with a wide processing window and ease of thermoforming that makes it ideal for complex parts. It is also available in custom colors not typically available in high-performance polycarbonate products.

The product is made using SEKISUI SPI’s Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) process which, according to the company, adheres to the small minimum order quantities and short lead times expected in the market.

The fully compliant KYDEX® FST suite includes the following aviation sheets:

• KYDEX® FST— Opaque

• KYDEX® FST 03— Pearlescent

• KYDEX® FST CTL—Tinted color/translucent

A statement from the company notes that KYDEX ® FST is formulated to meet all OEM requirements for aircraft interior components, and delivers excellent formability with a sophisticated flat matte finish. The product also meets the flammability and smoke development requirements outlined in Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) as well as the toxicity requirements for Airbus (ABD0031) and Boeing (BSS7239).

Ben Smalley, Aviation Market Business Manager, SEKISUI SPI, commented on the launch in a statement: “With the KYDEX® FST line, our aviation interior partners have a fully compliant material that meets a complex set of regulations while also having the reliable quality and supply chain that they’re used to with SEKISUI SPI. Designers can realize multi-faceted, layered designs with low minimums and custom color using the entire product line."
