AAB-inflight inspires with facility at MST

The Food Inspiration Center at Maastricht Aachen Airport

Located at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) in Netherlands is AAB-inflight’s headquarters housing its impressive Food Inspiration Center. Focused on the industrial bakery segment, the facility opened in January of this year.

“The Food Inspiration Center reinforces our positioning as an airline partner,” AAB-inflight’s Managing Director Harry Boshouwers tells PAX International in an exclusive interview.

The facility serves as a space where airline customers can visit AAB-inflight to discuss, develop and taste concepts with the snack and food expert. The Food Inspiration Center is responsible for the process in full—including the whole of production, planning, testing, packaging and logistics. The Center is strategically located to serve customers at all main airports within aprixmately 500 kilometers: Schipol Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Düsseldorf Airport, Brussels Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Heathrow Airport.

Previously called AA Bakeries International, the caterer rebranded to AAB-inflight in 2020 to emphasize its capabilities as a concept developer rather than just a patisserie supplier for the airline industry. The company designs snack and food concepts for airlines and airline caterers around the globe. Offerings include a wide variety of products: bread, portioned pastry, hot snacks, disposables and preservable hand-held bites.

“AAB-inflight believes in a future that is social, sustainable and safe,” explains Boshouwers.

The 1,500-square-meter building at MST is supplied with 100 percent renewable energy. The company is constantly looking for sustainable and biodegradable packaging solutions and is one of the few companies already on par with the most recent terrorist and safety regulations regarding food and aviation.

In cooperation with the Vegetarian Butcher and Royal Smilde Foods, AAB-inflight launched the meat-free sausage roll in March ahead of World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) 2023. It is to be heated and served for the best inflight experience.

AAB-inflight will be present at WTCE in May 2024.
