Emirates serves up special treats and menu onboard, offers passengers traditional red envelopes for Lunar New Year

Emirates marked Lunar New Year, the Year of the Dragon, on February 10 with curated menus in Emirates lounges in Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai and Beijing. Travellers could enjoy traditional “red envelopes” provided in inflight along with movie selections in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Passengers on select routes received a Lunar New Year dessert, a red velvet lychee cake in First and Business Class, and a creamy red velvet lychee mousse in Economy Class. First and Business Class travellers also received a traditional red envelope filled with chocolate coins, to share the good luck and wishes of the new year, the press release said.

Breakfast in the First and Business Class lounges was a ‘Cheung Fun’ steamed rice noodle roll stuffed with dried prawns and scallops. At lunch and dinnertime, First Class lounge visitors had the option to dine on Cantonese roast duck bao with plum sauce, while First and Business Class passengers in the lounge were offered poached shrimp and vegetable dumplings with soy and vinegar dip, or Chinese rainbow salad with smoked salmon, sesame and soya ginger dressing or pan-seared Chilean seabass with XO sauce and pak choy.

Desserts served included a sweet and light mango coconut cake with spices, or black tea cake in the First Class lounge, with a tangy yuzu tartlet served with green tea powder available in the Business Class Lounges. A limited-edition gourmet Matcha green tea ice cream, made in-house by Emirates chefs, was also part of the menu.

Emirates’ IFE selection onboard also catered to the celebration with more than 250 Hollywood movies with Chinese subtitles to choose from.
