FTE APEX Asia Expo gets underway in Singapore with Changi Airport the star of the show

FTE APEX Asia Expo officially kicked off today in Singapore with Member Only Meetings, a special tour of Changi Airport Terminal 2 and a Networking Ice Breaker for Premium Pass holders.
This afternoon, the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group and FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub joint meeting took place, hosted by Changi Airport Group.

The meeting was led by Darin Juby, Head of Baggage Transformation, Future Travel Experience, and Kevin Kleist, Sr. Emerging Trends Advisor, Southwest Airlines and Head of Innovation, Digitalization & Startup Engagement, FTE.
Speakers included Christopher Stein, Director Digital Services, Siemens Logistics; Harald Sieke, Head of Department, Fraunhofer IML – Aviation Logistics; Li San Poh, Senior Vice President, T5 Specialized Systems, Changi Airport Group; and, Samuel Layton, VP Operations, Singapore, Aurrigo.

Members of the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group received an exclusive baggage tour at Changi Airport Group before all Premium Pass holders were invited on a special tour.

After three and a half years of engineering and expansion works, T2 fully reopened November 1, which Changi Airport Group reports as “ahead of schedule.” The reopening restores four-terminal operations at Changi Airport, in time to meet capacity requirements in anticipation of full travel recovery to pre-COVID levels in 2024. The T2 expansion project has added five million passengers per annum to Changi’s capacity, bringing the airport’s total handling capacity to 90 million passengers per annum.

Inside the departure transit area, a brand-new garden, called Dreamscape, "mesmerizes with its enchanting array of plants amid a meticulously landscaped backdrop, brought alive by a ‘digital sky’ which changes its hues depending on the time of day," explains the Changi press release.
A highlight of the FTE APEX Asia Expo was “The Wonderfall.” The 14-meter tall digital display at the heart of T2’s departure hall was designed in collaboration with Moment Factory.

Innovative check-in and bag drop technologies and autonomous robots were among the many other features showcased on the tour.
Networking Ice Breaker
The night closed with the Networking Ice Breaker at Changi’s Hub & Spoke. The venue offered a café, live music and access to the airport’s outdoor gardens.

Premium Pass holders had the opportunity to explore the Jurassic Arc and Jurassic Mile throughout the evening on guided buggy tours and bicycle rides, all part of the initiative to showcase the Changi Airport.
