Mankiewicz to showcase advanced coating solutions at AIX 2026

By Robynne Trueman

Mankiewicz will showcase advanced coating solutions at its booth in Hamburg for AIX 2026 in April

At Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), Mankiewicz will challenge conventional refurbishment by showing how advanced coating solutions can relive aircraft cabin components that would otherwise be scrapped and replaced. Mankiewicz will be exhibiting at the expo in Hamburg, Germany, from April 14 to 16.

Instead of disposal, repair and refinish extend service life, cut downtime and reduce costs — because the most sustainable and cost-effective component is the one that does not need replacing, Mankiewicz said in its press release.

Airline engineers require efficient and reliably repeatable refurbishment processes for their fleets. Throughout an aircraft’s lifecycle, the surfaces of numerous cabin interior components are exposed to intensive wear by passengers and crew. This results in damage to surfaces, ranging from minor scratches to severe surface damages.

In many cases, cabin components with surface damage are replaced during refurbishment with entirely new parts, even though their functional integrity remains fully intact. Mankiewicz’s advanced refurbishment coating solutions address this issue by giving such components a second life

With the cabin coatings touch-up kit, cabin crews can carry out cosmetic repairs to minor surface imperfections between flights, applying the material using small brush bottles. Mankiewicz supplies these kits tailored to individual aircraft cabin designs, ensuring that the color shades used throughout the cabin interior are readily available. This prevents damages from spreading.

If a component with a decorative laminate surface is scratched by luggage or service trolleys, the damage cannot be repaired using laminates. In such cases, coatings provide an effective alternative, as laminate surfaces can be refinished using a specialized topcoat solution developed by Mankiewicz - an approach that is officially qualified by Airbus as a repair method.

For more severe damage to cabin components, involving deeper surface defects or damaged edges, the affected areas can first be rebuilt using ALEXIT-FST EdgeFiller and subsequently refinished with a coating system.

Coatings can also be applied in areas where they are not typically considered a repair option. With ALEXIT FST FlexCoat, for example, heavily worn armcaps can be refreshed and brought back to a presentable condition.

Despite their different applications and use cases, all solutions share a common objective: efficiently extending the service life of existing components, enabling airlines to pursue cost-conscious refurbishment strategies while reducing overall part consumption across their fleets.

Mankiewicz will showcase these solutions at AIX 2026 at booth 7E40.
