Bucher emphasizes branding elements at Aircraft Interiors Expo

Bucher Group returned to the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg this month with an expansive display of its latest products and a focus on customization. While Bucher is primarily a galley manufacturer, the supplier also does miscellaneous monuments, partitions, workstations and more. As CEO Beat Burlet tells PAX Tech, “Besides galleys, our main business is branding.”
Burlet says, more and more the company is seeing airlines demanding custom branding elements. When setting itself apart from other suppliers in the market, he notes that for Bucher, the difference is in the details.
“First and foremost, our engineering attention to detail is very high, we understand what airlines need,” he explains. “We understand what materials can be used to make branding elements appear a certain way.”
He also notes that, because of the company’s expertise in designing monuments to which the branding elements are typically attached, Bucher also understands the certification process.

In addition to meeting increasing demand for personalized branding elements, Burlet says the key challenge in the industry now is keeping up with the ramp up as Airbus and Boeing expand production lines.
“That means we are expanding quite a bit,” Burlet explains. “We have increased our workforce by about 70 percent over the last two years and have also expanded our floor space to meet the demand.”
For Bucher, meeting demand also means designing and building lightweight products to help the airlines reduce energy consumption during service.
“We also pay attention to what kind of materials we use for our products,” says Burlet.
“For example, our galleys are mainly made out of aluminum, which is recyclable, can be reused, unlike any other carbon fiber materials.”
He says Bucher is also trying to find new materials and composites that are either recyclable or manufactured from a renewable source.
“We are focusing on equipping our infrastructure with solar panels so that we can use solar power, renewable energies, and so forth,” Burlet says.
