LeTronics, showcased the WiseLift, launched in partnership with APEX, at Global EXPO in Long Beach, California, this week.
The WL780 PRM Transfer Lift, manufactured in China and assembled at LeTronics’ headquarters in Dallas, Texas, is a device to support the safe transfer of passengers from their wheelchairs to their seats onboard.
The lift offers fleetwide compatibility, including on regional aircraft, with a narrow design akin to a galley cart, allowing cabin crew to transport it through the aisle.
Gregg Cohen, President, LeTronics, tells PAX Tech that the testing process for the transfer lift took into account body diversity, checking the product for suitability for various heights and weights of passengers. According to Cohen, the experience of testing resulted in the choice to use the current sling with can have an incontinence pad inserted into it for passengers to sit on during the flight. The sling, which has four points, detaches from the lift and is sat on by the passenger for the duration of the journey, allowing for a “dignified and comfortable” boarding experience.
The lift is battery operated, with Cohen saying the batteries support approximately twenty transfers and can last up to a week. The WL780 PRM Transfer Lift is an FDA registered Class 1 Medical Device that requires a service contract and training of cabin crew for proper usage.
While the WL780 PRM currently available to market is adjustable in length for Economy Class boarding and passenger transfer, Cohen explains that the 790 model, expected to come to market in about six months, will be longer and suitable for use in Premium seating classes.
