Cayman Airways powers up with Burrana
Cayman Airways has selected Burrana for an in-seat power retrofit. The program is a first for Burrana on a 737 Max aircraft and includes an all-economy offering with two combo USB-A and -C jacks per triple seat, powered by one USB Seat Box (USP) per seat group. The system is seat leg mounted to 144 B/E Aerospace Meridian seats to maximize leg room for passengers.
Burrana’s lightweight system has no impact on the existing seat certification, a key factor in its selection by Cayman. Burrana’s ISPS features a 48VDC power architecture that delivers an ultra-light system with high reliability and fewer components compared to competitive AC distribution systems, the press release said.
“Cayman’s passengers will be able to enjoy all the benefits of Burrana’s in-seat power solution, including high-speed USB charging, intelligent power-sharing distribution and load shed management that ensures greater utilization of available power, while multiple levels of redundancy provide the highest reliability, meaning the possibility of a passenger-facing failure is almost zero,” said David Pook, VP Global Marketing & Sales.
Fabian Whorms, CEO at Cayman Airways, said that the partnership was initiated because the airline was seeking a retrofit in-seat power system for its 737 MAX aircraft.
“We chose Burrana for their favorable pricing, lower weight, innovative system and installation design. The Burrana team was very committed and responsive to our needs. After more than a year in service, we are very satisfied with the reliability of the product,” Whorms explained.
