Hamburg - Tapis Corporation (Tapis), a leading supplier of high-performance fabrics for aircraft seating and vertical surface applications, has announced a major contract award with Virgin Australia during the AIX show in Hamburg.

Working with its long-standing partner, Ultrafabrics, Tapis will supply the carrier with its Promessa AV seat covers for both Business and Economy class cabins onboard 25 new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft it has on order.

“This award represents a major change for the airline, as previously they used solely organic leather,” said Matthew Nicholls, Sales Director, Tapis Corporation. “Our synthetic Ultraleather products deliver the look and feel of leather, but at only a third of the weight.”

Promessa AV combines the appearance and touch of European calfskin. When it comes to durability and abrasion resistance, Promessa AV performs on par with traditional leather’s toughness, Tapis said.

A premium polyurethane high-performance fabric, Promessa AV is described as suited for aircraft settings that require the look and feel of leather, but need a more durable and practical alternative.

PVC-free and designed for longevity, Promessa AV is ideal for a variety of uses, including high wear applications, while remaining soft and supple to the touch.
