LOT Polish Airlines brings a new dimension to onboard confectionery with its ChocOrigami. Developed in partnership with Polish chocolatier DESEO, the product allows passengers to assemble individual chocolate pieces into LOT's recognizable crane, combining confectionery with an interactive passenger experience.

The concept originated during the LOT Summer Internship 2025, when intern Sandra Rycaj proposed transforming the airline's longstanding symbol into a chocolate creation inspired by the Japanese art of origami. Part of LOT's visual identity since 1929, the crane also holds significance in Japanese tradition, symbolizing good fortune and longevity.

According to Agnieszka Bargieł, Deputy Director, Customer Experience, LOT Polish Airlines, the proposal stood out for its ability to connect the airline's heritage with Polish craftsmanship and passenger engagement.

Rather than remaining an internship exercise, the idea evolved into a commercial product with support from LOT team members Patryk Drygajło, Agata Sikorska and Renata Zaczek, who helped develop and implement the concept.

DESEO was responsible for transforming the proposal into a finished product, using its bean-to-bar chocolate production process.

Unlike conventional industrial chocolate manufacturing, the process involves overseeing each stage of production, from roasting and grinding cocoa beans to conching, tempering and moulding the finished chocolate.

The company developed specialized moulds to produce individual components using Togo 42 per cent milk chocolate, ensuring the pieces could be assembled into the airline's recognizable mascot.

The process required balancing taste, durability and practicality, particularly given the demands of transporting the product and ensuring passengers could assemble the pieces.

Beyond its confectionery appeal, ChocOrigami introduces an element of entertainment to the passenger experience. The finished creation can be enjoyed as a sweet treat or kept as a travel souvenir. It is available through multiple sales channels, including LOT's Business Lounge and SHOP&MORE online store.

Bargieł says the concept reflects LOT's broader commitment to showcasing Polish craftsmanship through products that combine design, creativity and passenger engagement. The concept won Best Food & Beverage – Buy On Board at the 2027 IFSA Awards in September.
