United Airlines has unveiled its new Terminal B North Concourse at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, featuring expanded dining options, enhanced passenger amenities and the largest airline lounge in the Americas.

Opening to passengers on October 22, the three-level, 765,000-square-foot facility features 22 mainline gates and is the centrepiece of United's $2.6 billion Terminal B Transformation Program.

"I want our customers to start their vacation the minute they show up at the airport and Terminal B North sets a new standard for facilities across the country," said Scott Kirby, CEO, United Airlines.

A highlight of the new concourse is the 54,000-square-foot United Club, which the airline says is the largest airline lounge in North and South America.

Located on the mezzanine level, the lounge accommodates 800 passengers and features a 1,350-square-foot outdoor terrace with panoramic airfield views.

Additional amenities include two full-service bars, two buffet stations, 11 private phone rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi and power outlets throughout.

The lounge's design draws inspiration from Houston's cityscape, bayou landscape and aerospace heritage, complemented by artwork from predominantly Texas-based artists.

The concourse also dedicates more than 105,000 square feet to dining, retail and concessions, featuring local favourites such as B&B Butchers & Restaurant, Rosie Cannonball, Pizaro's Pizza, Blood Bros. BBQ, Katz Coffee and Blue Bell Creameries.

National brands include Starbucks, Raising Cane's, Jimmy John's and Cinnabon, while Be Relax Spa offers massages, nail treatments and facials.

United plans to introduce food ordering through its mobile app at IAH later this year, allowing eligible passengers to order meals, beverages and travel essentials for pickup or delivery near their gates.

Family-friendly amenities include a children's play area and a dedicated sensory room for travellers with autism and sensory sensitivities. The space features interactive activity panels, sitting pods, a nature room and a fibre-optic stargazer ceiling.

The terminal also features 10 major art installations inspired by Houston's culture, history and natural environment, part of a $16.8 million public art program.

Beyond passenger amenities, the development includes upgraded baggage handling technology, expanded roadway access and additional jet bridge connections.

The facility is pursuing LEED Gold certification, incorporating energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures and electrification infrastructure.

The opening forms part of United's continued investment in Houston, where the airline operates more than 500 daily departures and has invested more than $3.5 billion in airport infrastructure since 2015.
