JFK Terminal 5 brings New York dining icons to passengers

Opening of Eataly at JFK Terminal 5
John F. Kennedy International Airport’s (JFK) Terminal 5 is adding more New York flavor to the passenger journey as its multimillion-dollar redevelopment continues.
This summer, passengers traveling through the terminal can access a growing lineup of new dining and retail concepts, led by JetBlue, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Fraport USA. Once complete, the refreshed terminal will feature more than 40 new shops, restaurants, communal spaces and art installations inspired by New York City and its boroughs.
Fraport New York has welcomed nearly a dozen new concepts to date, including several high-profile openings in June. The latest additions include Eataly, Nom Wah and The Halal Guys, bringing passengers a broader mix of local and internationally recognized food experiences before departure.
“At Terminal 5, we are creating more than an airport experience. We are creating a place that reflects the spirit of New York,” said Jose Cuevas, Vice President, Fraport New York. “The refresh is transforming the terminal, offering exceptional dining and retail experiences, art, entertainment and thoughtfully designed gathering spaces that come together to foster discovery, comfort and connection.”
Eataly has opened a 3,800-square-foot restaurant, wine bar and grab-and-go marketplace, celebrating Italian food and wine culture. The opening included a partnership with the Metropolitan Opera, with live performances featuring works by Giacomo Puccini and Giuseppe Verdi, along with Leonard Bernstein’s “Maria” from West Side Story.

Nom Wah brings its vintage dim sum parlor experience to JFK Terminal 5
Nom Wah has also joined the terminal lineup with a 3,500-square-foot restaurant and bar inspired by a vintage dim sum parlour. The original Nom Wah opened in Manhattan’s Chinatown in 1920 and is recognized as New York City’s oldest continuously operating dim sum restaurant.
The Halal Guys, another New York food staple, brings its chicken and gyro platters, pita bread and signature white sauce to Terminal 5. The brand began as a Midtown street cart before growing into one of the city’s most recognizable quick-service concepts.
Teresa Rizzuto, General Manager at JFK International Airport, said the new additions support the Port Authority’s vision for a New York-focused airport experience.
“The addition of Eataly, Nom Wah Tea Parlor and The Halal Guys align with the Port Authority’s vision for a new JFK with a uniquely New York experience that will become an enjoyable part of the passenger journey,” said Rizzuto.
Passengers can also access food and beverage options from Leon’s Bagels, Jacob’s Pickles, Melt Shop, Dunkin’ and Shake Shack. New retail and experience concepts include InMotion, Park Emporium and Gameway, an immersive gaming and relaxation lounge.
The central concourse transformation is nearing completion. The redesigned area, called Central Node Park, is inspired by the city’s parks and will include spaces for pop-up experiences, interactive events and live performances. It is expected to be completed in September.
“Each new opening of our Terminal 5 refresh brings another flavor of our hometown for our customers to explore,” said Stephanie Evans Greene, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Brand at JetBlue. “We are so proud to celebrate the variety New York offers while giving our customers more choices to love, improving their experience even before takeoff.”
