China Airlines unveils refreshed Premium Economy Class on 787 fleet

China Airlines has introduced a new Premium Economy Class experience aboard its upcoming 787 fleet, combining Taiwanese cultural influences with upgraded comfort, connectivity and service enhancements.
The Taiwan-based carrier’s new-generation cabin design continues its signature “Theme of Oriental Aesthetics” while incorporating local scenery and cultural elements intended to create a sense of familiarity for travelers.
The Premium Economy cabin is built around the theme “Starlit Mountain City,” drawing inspiration from Taiwan’s urban landscapes. Using carefully selected colors, materials and lighting, the design blends local culture with modern technology to evoke the atmosphere and warmth of Taiwan’s cities.
The Premium Economy cabin will feature 28 seats in a 2-3-2 configuration. Seat covers inspired by Jiufen’s illuminated nightscape shift subtly under ambient lighting, while metallic chrome accents and warm leather textures create a balance between contemporary design and cultural references.
Each seat is equipped with a six-way adjustable headrest featuring integrated privacy wings, as well as a leather footrest designed to improve comfort on long-haul journeys.

The airline has also enhanced functionality throughout the cabin. The tray table incorporates the carrier’s persimmon wood-grain design, a symbol traditionally associated with prosperity and fulfillment in Taiwanese culture. An anti-slip coating improves usability, while an integrated device stand allows passengers to securely position smartphones and tablets during the flight.
For inflight entertainment, passengers will have access to a 15.6-inch 4K high-definition screen. The system supports Bluetooth connectivity, enabling travelers to pair personal headphones and, for the first time, use smartphones and tablets as remote controls for the inflight entertainment platform. Individual rose-gold reading lamps add a premium touch to the passenger experience.
Beyond the seat, China Airlines has introduced a range of upgraded amenities and service elements aimed at delivering a Premium Economy experience closer to that of Business Class. Passengers will receive lightweight porcelain tableware, individually packaged napkins, two-tone blankets, slippers and noise-reducing over-ear headphones.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is also included, offering unlimited web browsing and messaging with a service level aligned with the airline’s Business Class product.
To further elevate the experience, China Airlines has partnered with fashion brand Marc Jacobs and Danish lifestyle and skincare company FRAMA to create a travel kit for Premium Economy passengers.
