Lufthansa refreshes A380 Business Class, boosts IFE offering
Lufthansa’s A380 Business Class features Thompson seats with direct aisle access
Lufthansa has begun retrofitting its A380 fleet with a Business Class product and upgraded inflight entertainment system, marking a significant investment in long-haul passenger experience.
The redesigned Business Class introduces Thompson seats, offering a seat width of 58 centimeters and a bed length of at least two meters. Each of the 68 seats provides direct aisle access and features adjustable partitions to enhance privacy and flexibility for passengers.
According to the Lufthansa press release, the updated cabin will offer more comfort on the A380, combining increased personal space with improved ergonomics and layout efficiency.
The retrofit also includes a comprehensive upgrade to the inflight entertainment system. Business Class passengers can access content on 18-inch Panasonic screens, including films, TV series, music and digital publications. The system supports Bluetooth connectivity, allowing passengers to pair personal headphones.

Additional features include an interactive 3D moving map, flight cameras, enhanced audio performance and a redesigned user interface available across all cabin classes.
The first retrofitted aircraft, registered D-AIMC, completed its upgrade in just under 12 weeks and has entered service, with its inaugural flight scheduled between Munich and Los Angeles. Work on the second aircraft is already underway at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden, where the retrofit program began earlier this year.
Lufthansa plans to modernize all eight of its A380 aircraft by mid-2027, with the upgrades carried out alongside routine maintenance to optimize downtime.
The initiative reflects Lufthansa’s continued focus on elevating the onboard experience across its long-haul fleet, combining updated seating, advanced technology and refined cabin design.
