Cathay Pacific representatives mark the unveiling of the redesigned The Wing
Cathay Pacific has unveiled its newly redesigned The Wing, First lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), marking a major milestone in the airline’s ongoing investment in premium ground experiences.
Set to reopen to customers on April 22, the refreshed lounge signals a new chapter in Cathay Pacific’s flagship lounge design, combining contemporary aesthetics with a more holistic approach to comfort, privacy and service.
Located in Terminal 1, The Wing, First has been a cornerstone of the airline’s offering since the airport opened in 1998. The redesign, developed in collaboration with London-based StudioIlse, builds on Cathay Pacific’s established design language while introducing refined materials, improved spatial flow and enhanced passenger amenities.
Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said the reopening reflects the airline’s long-term commitment to elevating the passenger journey.
“The Wing, First has long held a special place in not only our hearts, but also our customers’,” Lam said. “Its reopening marks an important milestone in the evolution of our flagship lounge design and reflects our long-standing commitment to putting people at the heart of everything we do.”
Design rooted in comfort and familiarity
The updated lounge retains key elements of Cathay Pacific’s identity, including its signature green onyx, while introducing walnut wood finishes and granite flooring inspired by traditional Chinese architecture. Custom-designed furniture and lighting enhance the residential feel, reinforcing a sense of warmth and familiarity.
At the centre of the lounge is the Atrium, a light-filled space anchored by the iconic bar and complemented by a self-serve Pantry offering. The space evolves throughout the day, transitioning from breakfast service to afternoon tea and evening dining.
For a more formal experience, the Dining Room provides à la carte service featuring Asian and international dishes, including regional Chinese cuisine developed in partnership with Mott 32.

A reimagined shower suite incorporates customizable lighting and water settings, allowing passengers to tailor their experience to refresh or relax before boarding.
For business travellers, The Bureau provides fully enclosed workspaces with adjustable lighting modes designed for focused work or small meetings.

The reopening of The Wing, First forms part of Cathay Pacific’s wider lounge enhancement strategy. Recent updates include redesigned spaces at The Bridge in Hong Kong and the airline’s Beijing lounge, with further expansion planned, including a new dedicated lounge in New York’s JFK Terminal 6.
Backed by an investment of more than (US$12 billion) across fleet, cabins, lounges and digital innovation, Cathay Pacific continues to position its ground experience as a key differentiator in premium travel.
