ANA Holdings (ANA HD) is launching a new trial program, "MoVA," a rental service for self-propelled wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs and strollers at Kansai International Airport (KIX) starting July 1.

Developed in collaboration with Care'x Inc. and Imasen Engineering Corporation, the MoVA service marks a first for the Japanese airline. ANA HD's objective is to foster a society where individuals of any age can enjoy travel without mobility being a barrier, the press release said.

"ANA's corporate vision is 'Uniting the world in wonder'" said Yoshiaki Tsuda, Director of New Business Development at ANA HD. "Due to various constraints, such as physical, economic, time-wise, and geopolitical, fewer than 10 percent of the world population travels by air annually. I believe that MoVA will expand accessibility and allow more people to enjoy air travel in wonder."

Objectives of the trial program
To address evolving societal demographics and a growing interest in universal tourism and the resulting transportation needs of airport users, ANA HD's trial program will demonstrate how MoVA can solve the issue of continuous use, ensuring travelers can keep mobility devices for their entire journey.

This initiative was developed based on direct experiences and recommendations from ANA cabin attendants. Their daily interactions with passengers, combined with insights from working with local governments, highlighted the inconvenience of current transportation options, ultimately inspiring this project. The program aims to significantly improve user convenience and promote barrier-free transportation.

This trial program will identify user profiles, assess their needs and validate an operational model. These efforts will guide future rental item selections, refine operational strategies and determine the most effective promotion methods. Looking ahead, ANA HD's goal is to expand the service to airports and major facilities across Japan, ultimately spearheading a "rent anywhere, return anywhere" service.
