The new candy cane lolly for Air New Zealand mixed among the red and green flavours

A special edition Air New Zealand red and white striped candy cane lolly will be available to passengers during the holiday season. The candy cane flavoured confectionary will be mixed among the classic red and green lollies for the month of December for a festive feeling onboard.

"December is an exciting time in the air. We're connecting millions of customers with friends and whānau for the holiday season and there's always a buzz onboard. We wanted to celebrate that festive feeling with a sweet holiday surprise for our customers,” said Air New Zealand General Manager Customer Experience Kylie McGillivray-Brown.

McGillivray-Brown added that the Air New Zealand lolly is a much-loved treat onboard which is why it is now part of the Christmas magic for passengers flying this season.

“The new flavour tastes just like a Christmas candy cane, bringing some Christmas magic to fliers. We've been serving the iconic hard-boiled sweets for over half a century, and this is only the second time we have released a limited-edition flavour,” she said. "Customers can enjoy the candy cane flavour from December 1 until they've all been devoured! It's one way we're saying 'Meri Kirihimete' to our passengers as they travel around the globe this Christmas season."

The candy cane lolly is just one treat onboard Air New Zealand flights this December. More festive delights will be delivered on domestic routes over the holiday season, including exclusive pretzel and candy cane chocolate bark, and a selection of “top shelf” wines during Koru Hour, and other festive moments onboard.

The Air New Zealand lolly comes in five classic flavours: Strawberry, Peppermint, Lime, Lemon, and Orange. They were made for flying because sucking one activates the muscle that opens your eustachian tubes, relieving pressure in your ears at high altitude.

The first special edition lolly came out in 2015 and was the popular “All Black” blackcurrant flavour. It still pops up occasionally as a surprise for passengers onboard.
