Global air and travel services provider, dnata Group, is marking Civil Aviation Day in the UAE by honouring the achievements and milestones of the local aviation industry over the last 64 years.

dnata has seen significant growth since its inception in 1959 when it was founded by a team of two as a UAE-based travel agency. Today, it provides services in more than 30 countries across six continents.

"As we mark Civil Aviation Day in the UAE, it is an honour to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the local aviation industry alongside the authorities, our partners and team,” Steve Allen, CEO of dnata Group, shared in an October 5 press release.

“Since its foundation in 1959, dnata’s journey has been one of dedication, innovation and relentless commitment to service excellence. We are extremely proud to see how our company and its hardworking teams have played an instrumental role in the success and growth of Dubai and the UAE aviation industry.”

Allen continued, “Aviation is a vital driver of economic progress, and we look forward to contributing to the UAE’s further development by consistently providing best-in-class services across our diverse operations.”

Over the last six decades, dnata’s growth and achievements have included instrumental roles in the design of the original Dubai International Airport (DXB) and its three terminals in the 1960s and overseeing the first aircraft turnaround at DXB’s new terminal in 1971.

dnata also celebrated the launch of marhaba airport services in 1991, the expansion into the Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) in 2010, the opening of the new export customer service centre and Cargo Integrated Control Centre at Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZA) in 2016 and the completion of the first “green” turnaround of a flydubai aircraft in the UAE in 2019.

dnata explains in its press release that the growth of the company reflects Dubai’s growth. dnata Group currently has more than 23,000 employees who provide service to over 190 passenger and cargo airlines in the UAE. The company supports more than 86,000 passengers each day, handles over 220,000 bags and moves 1,600 tonnes of cargo.

On this Civil Aviation Day in the UAE, dnata Group is also celebrating the success of its first overseas operation, Gerry’s dnata, in Pakistan in 1993. According to the press release, the new location allowed dnata to expand its global operations through acquisitions, partnerships and organic growth.
