LaGuardia Terminal B achieves Gold Accessibility Certification
Terminal wayfinding incorporates colour-coded pathways, and a calming sensory seating area is available
LaGuardia Terminal B, managed by LaGuardia Gateway Partners and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has secured a Gold rating in the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification program.
“Accessibility is a critical part of the Port Authority’s mission to create world-class airports, where state-of-the-art technology and thoughtful design will make travel easier and less stressful for passengers of all ability levels,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton in an August 11 press release. “Among all the accolades received by Terminal B, we are particularly proud that the new terminal is the first in the nation to be awarded Gold certification by the Rick Hansen Foundation.”
The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification offers a people-focused assessment of accessibility, providing organizations with actionable steps to enhance inclusivity.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition from The Rick Hansen Foundation, which is a leader in the effort to create and promote accessible spaces,” said Port Authority Board Chairman Kevin O’Toole in the same release. “This gold certification for Terminal B is a testament to the efforts by the Port Authority and LaGuardia Gateway Partners to provide a best-in-class experience for all of our passengers and communities.”
LaGuardia Terminal B is now the first American airline terminal to be awarded this distinction.

The redevelopment of Terminal B, part of the broader LaGuardia Airport transformation, prioritized accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The terminal features hearing loops at service desks, intuitive departure boards with colour-coded information, and specialized assistance for curbside check-in. Terminal wayfinding incorporates colour-coded pathways, and a calming sensory seating area is available. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard program aids travellers with disabilities like autism and PTSD.
