Emirates is embracing the spirit of Kerala’s harvest festival, Onam, by introducing a delectable array of traditional treats and entertainment options for passengers. From August 20 to 31, 2023, passengers on flights to and from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai will be treated to authentic Onam cuisine across all cabin classes.

Passengers aboard the 14 weekly flights to Kochi and the seven weekly flights to Thiruvananthapuram can relish curated menus reflecting the distinct flavours of Onam. The offerings include appetizers like sweet jaggery-roasted banana (sharkara upperi), crispy banana chips (kaya varuthathu), and yogurt-soaked fried sundried chilies (kondattam mulaku). Various traditional dips like coconut-based kaalan, cucumber salad (cucumber pachadi), and tangy ginger chutney (puli inji) will also be available. First and Business Class travellers will enjoy Kerala-style pappadam and spicy mango pickles.

The main course selection features options like spiced chicken in coconut sauce (alleppey kozhi curry) with avial, chemba rice, and cabbage carrot thoran, or vegetarian sadhya with sambar, kootu, matta rice, and carrot pea thoran. Additionally, there’s pan-fried chicken with coconut and spices (spiced chicken sukha) paired with rice and vegetable kootu, or mutton sukha with chemba rice, erissery, and bean thoran. First Class passengers can also savour the mutton pepper fry.

For dessert, passengers can enjoy Onam favourites such as creamy rice pudding (palada pradhaman) served with pistachios, raisins, and cashew nuts, or the popular sweet lentil pudding (parippu payasam) topped with roasted coconut flakes. To enhance the authentic experience, all meals will be served on banana leaf dish liners, capturing the essence of a traditional sadhya.

In addition to the culinary offerings, passengers celebrating Onam can explore a plethora of entertainment options on Emirates’ award-winning ice system. With over 6,500 channels, including Malayalam movies like Ela Veezha Poonchira, Hridayam, Bro Daddy, and 12th Man, passengers can enjoy a diverse range of content in multiple languages.
