Jetstar is undergoing a massive pilot recruitment drive and plans to hire more than 140 pilots this year to support its expanding network and operations.

The recruitment campaign is part of the Qantas Group’s long-term strategy to create 8500 new operational roles within the next decade. This initiative will enable the airline to introduce new routes, including Sydney to Rarotonga, Brisbane to Seoul, and Melbourne to Fiji, and offer more affordable fares to passengers.

“As we approach 20 years of Jetstar it’s an exciting time to be joining our airline and the industry and it's fantastic to see so many new team members coming on board this year,” said Jetstar’s Chief Pilot & Head of Flight Operations, Jeremy Schmidt in a July 24 press release.

“With our ninth state-of-the-art A321neo LR about to arrive and nine more of the aircraft expected before the end of 2024, we need more pilots to support our growing fleet and network.”

Among the new pilots is Patrick Schwarz, a cadet pilot who will join his father, Captain Phil Schwarz, an experienced Jetstar Group pilot.

Schwarz made his debut commercial flight with Jetstar on July 24, 2023, becoming one of the first cadets to transition directly from the Qantas Group Pilot Academy to Jetstar.
