Turkish Airlines carried 7.4 million passengers in May
Turkish Airlines has released its latest passenger traffic results for May 2023, demonstrating significant growth compared to the same period in 2022. The airline reported a remarkable increase in passenger capacity, recording a 13 percent rise compared to the previous year.
According to the recently released traffic report, Turkish Airlines carried a total of 7.4 million passengers in May 2023, marking a notable 16 percent surge from the same period in 2022. The load factor for the month stood at an impressive 81.8 percent, indicating a high level of efficiency and capacity utilization.
The international segment played a crucial role in the airline’s success, witnessing growth during May 2023. The number of international to international passengers carried rose by an impressive 22.2 percent, reaching 2.3 million passengers compared to 1.9 million in the corresponding period last year. These figures underscore Turkish Airlines’ international reach and its ability to attract travellers from around the globe.
Notable improvements were also observed in domestic traffic, with Turkish Airlines reporting a domestic load factor of 80.7 percent for May 2023. This signifies a strong demand for domestic air travel in Turkey, further contributing to the airline’s overall positive performance. The available seat kilometers (ASK), a key indicator of the airline’s capacity, saw a substantial increase of 13 percent to 19.9 billion in May 2023.
The performance of growth extended beyond May, as Turkish Airlines revealed the traffic results for the January to May 2023 period. The airline witnessed a significant 29 percent increase in the total number of passengers, soaring to 31 million compared to the same period in 2022.
The international-to-international segment experienced substantial growth, with a remarkable 49 percent increase in passengers carried during the January to May 2023 period. The figures rose from 7.8 million passengers in 2022 to an impressive 11.6 million this year, reflecting Turkish Airlines’ strong global connectivity.
Overall, the total load factor for January to May 2023 increased by 7.5 points to 81.1 percent compared to the same period in 2022. The international load factor reached 81.2 percent, while the domestic load factor stood at 80.2 percent.
Turkish Airlines’ commitment to expansion is evident in the growth of available seat kilometers (ASK), which rose by 25.8 percent to 90.4 billion for the January to May 2023 period, compared to 71.9 billion in 2022. The increased ASK highlights the airline’s dedication to providing more flight options to meet growing travel demand.
