Emirates and dnata have signed pledges to increase female representation in management positions

Emirates and dnata, both part of the Emirates Group, announce they have joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), advancing their sustainability efforts.

“In the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, we are pleased to join the United Nations Global Compact, which is another step forward in the Emirates Group’s efforts to embed sustainable and responsible business practices across our operations,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, in an April 26 press release.

The companies will gain access to the UNGC’s resources, engaging and improving employees’ training in sustainability, and will report on their progress on all efforts annually.

Emirates and dnata will implement the UNGC’s Ten Principles in areas such as human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. As part of their ongoing environmental initiatives, Emirates and dnata have pledged to reduce emissions, promote responsible consumption, and preserve wildlife and habitats. dnata has already pledged $100 million to enhance environmental efficiency in its operations.

The Emirates Group also supports industry-wide initiatives to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, including IATA’s collective industry commitment and ICAO’s Long-Term Aspirational Goal. The Group is exploring opportunities to achieve these goals through fleet renewal, operational fuel efficiency, sustainable aviation fuels, and renewable energy.

The Group has signed the UAE Gender Balance Council's pledge as it continues to be committed to gender balance and aims to increase female representation at middle to senior management positions in coming years.

Saeed Al Maktoum added, “Emirates and dnata have always taken a balanced approach to growth. Reflecting Dubai and the UAE’s long-term vision, we are tireless in our pursuit of excellence and progress, and we embrace the values of tolerance and respect. We will continue to invest in technologies, people, and partnerships to improve our business performance, expand our positive impact on the communities we serve, and reduce our environmental impact.”
