License granted to Malaysian carrier
A MYAirline A320
There is a new airline in the offing based out of Malaysia. According to its application to the Malaysian Aviation Commission in February 2021. Startup airline MYAirline Sdn Bhd will operate as a low-cost carrier (LCC) out of Kuala Lumpur.
MYAirline secured an air operator's certificate valid from October 1, 2022. Sources suggest they are now undergoing a final assessment with the Commission before getting full operating approval.
The new airline has also received a conditional air service license (ASL) from Mavcom that is valid until Dec 31, 2022. The carrier is waiting for the aviation authority to convert the conditional ASL status to a current status. There is one aircraft currently awaiting startup parked ad KUL. The red and grey liveried A320 will be the first and the service level has been declared as being an “LCC” as opposed to “ULCC."
With AirAsia currently dominating the skies in Asia, this new airline will have its work cut out to compete - however MYAirline CEO Rayner Teo suggested his company could have the edge by selling cheaper airfares, better real-time customer support and punctual flights.
“We use technology and innovation to bring our costs down. We emphasize good quality of service for our passengers,” he said.
They will have an insight into their competition as MYAirline has also hired former top AirAsia executives, which could give the carrier some crucial insights into the highly competitive budget aviation industry. Among them is Kathleen Tan, MYAirline’s chief executive adviser who had 13 years with AirAsia and advisor to Tony Fernandes.
