By Rick Lundstrom

Several new SSP outlets will be opening at Darwin International Airport in the months to come

A 10-year partnership agreement between Airport Development Group (ADG) and SSP will bring new food and beverage offerings to both Darwin International Airport and Alice Springs Airport in Australia starting this month.

The new partnership will see a staged transformation of the terminal food and beverage outlets and a range of new offerings.

SSP also has outlets in Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, and Perth airports, and provides a range of national and international brands as well as bespoke concepts.

“Food and beverage offerings at airports are inextricably linked to customer experience,” said Executive General Manager Property and Terminal Ross Baynes. “So it is really important we offer variety, quality and value. The new partnership between SSP and ADG has been nearly 12 months in the making to ensure we get the offerings just right for our customers. We are really thrilled to be bringing this level of customer experience to passengers traveling through our airports.”

Starting July 1, SSP began opening several new brands and concepts in the existing tenancies across both Darwin and Alice Springs. Over the coming months, seven of these sites will be fully re-developed as part of the exciting terminal re-development. This will see national favorites, Roll’d and Red Rooster in new locations, joined by bespoke SSP brands such as Pronto, Soul + Grain, The Gliding Goose and The Northern Common.

In Alice Springs, the company will transform of the existing café to Discovered Café and Bar. This will be complimented by a new, smaller landside offering called The Blue Bilby Café.

The food and beverage outlets will be offering a mix of all day dining and café style food and beverages and where possible local produce will be used, including locally roasted coffee.

Commenting on the agreement, Shane Bayer, chief operating officer of SSP APAC said: “This new venture will be our first business in the important Northern Territory of Australia. We’re looking forward to bringing passengers passing through Darwin a chance to experience what is great about the Territory, and what makes it so unique.”

“Developed in close partnership with our colleagues at the airport, the mix offered will appeal to all passengers, catering for all day parts late into the evening. The project will be an outstanding showcase of our ability to provide a truly impressive F&B offer for the Australian market.”
