Etihad Airways rang in the launch of its new 787-10 Dreamliner on daily services to Rome with a special dinner at the city's Cavalieri Hotel, hosted by Italian anchorwoman Roberta Capua. The airline now flies the aircraft from Abu Dhabi to Rome each morning, as well as a second flight each evening in a 777-300ER.

His Excellency Ahmed Al Mulla, UAE Deputy Ambassador to Italy, and Martin Drew, Etihad’s Vice President, Europe and the Americas, were in attendance. According to a press release from the airline, guests were treated to traditional Arabic calligraphy and music inspired by traditional Arabic instruments.

A special panel discussion dedicated to Abu Dhabi had three speakers sharing their fond memories of the city: Guillermo Mariotto, fashion stylist and TV personality; Irene Saderini, sports reporter covering Superbike and Formula E events for Sky Sports; and Clelia Patella, art influencer and writer.

Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer, Etihad Aviation Group, commented on the launch in a statement: “We are delighted to be here in Rome, celebrating a very special aircraft, serving a very important city in our network.

“The introduction of Boeing 787s across our network will enable us to further enhance our inflight experience, giving our guests the opportunity to enjoy the most highly customized Dreamliner cabins in the world.

“These aircraft feature upgraded entertainment systems and connectivity, and of course all our guests will experience our acclaimed service and hospitality. We are delighted that Rome is among the first cities to receive our new 787-10 aircraft, and look forward to celebrating the introduction of the 787-9 to Milan in September.”

Etihad Airways’ 787 Dreamliner fleet, containing both 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft, features Business Studios with fully-flat beds up to 80.5 inches in length and with 20% more personal space, plus in-seat massage and a system that allows guests to control their seat's firmness. Each seat is upholstered in Poltrona Frau Leather. Eighteen-inch personal touchscreens and noise-cancelling headsets allow passengers in this class to enjoy the airline's IFE system with more than 750 hours of visual media, hundreds of songs and a selection of digital games. Mobile connectivity, onboard Wi-Fi and seven satellite channels of live TV are also available. In addition, Etihad's Dreamliner flights to Rome include Food and Beverage Managers in Business Class and a Flying Nanny in Economy Class.

The fleet's Economy Smart Seats add to guests' comfort with a unique ‘fixed wing’ headrest, adjustable lumbar support, a seat width of approximately 19 inches and an 11.1” personal TV monitor.
