Aviation industry mourns the loss of Bert Dinkel

The aviation industry is mourning the loss of Bert Dinkel, who leaves behind his wife, Ha Nguyen.

Bert Dinkel, Deputy General Director, Vietnam Airlines Caterers Ltd is being remembered for his warm friendship and legacy in the airline catering sector.

Keerthi Hapugasdeniya, founder of happyK solutions and APOT Asia, offered his condolences to Dinkel’s wife and shared a heartfelt message on Dinkel’s passing via LinkedIn:

“Mr. Bert's memory will forever remain etched in our hearts as a pillar of strength and friendship. Your resilience and fortitude are a beacon of inspiration during this dark hour. Honor his legacy by drawing upon the inner strength that he admired in you.

May the cherished memories you shared with Mr. Bert provide solace in your sorrow and may the support of those who care for you bring comfort in this time of bereavement. You are a woman of remarkable strength, and we APOT believe that you will find the courage to endure this loss with grace.

Our thoughts are with you, and your precious children, and all those who are touched by his absence. May you find peace amidst the storm of sorrow and may Mr. Bert's spirit continue to guide you with love and light.”

PAX International’s Asia Correspondent, Jeremy Clark, who was a close friend of Dinkel’s, said, “Our dear friend and colleague and my friend of more than 24 years - someone I literally thought would go forever has lost the battle. I am truly saddened at this tragic loss. Bert may be gone from this time and existence but his soul and spirit lives on in our memories, and in the time and space that awaits us all.”

Dinkel served as the Deputy General Manager at Vietnam Airlines Catering Ltd. for more than a decade, starting with the company back in 1993.

He got his start in the culinary sector in Calgary, Canada, in 1986 before taking on the role of Chef de Cuisine at the Park Hyatt Hotel Canberra in 1988. In 1991, Dinkel entered the aviation industry as Executive Sous Chef for Cathay Pacific Catering Services (H.K.) Ltd., before stepping into the General Manager position with VACS.

VACS was established in July 1993 as a joint venture between Vietnam Airlines and Cathay Pacific Catering Services and officially launched in November of the same year.
