Bamboo Airways has named Luong Hoai Nam as General Director (Chief Executive Officer) effective October 23. This appointment is the latest in the ongoing restructuring of the airline in areas including governance and administration. The goal of the restructuring is to stabilize operations, attract quality investment resources and create opportunities for development in the medium term, the press release said.
At the appointment ceremony on October 23, the Standing Vice Chairman of Bamboo Airways, Phan Dinh Tue, expressed his confidence in the new General Director. He said Nam brings a professional background and extensive experience in aviation and related fields such as real estate and tourism.
Nam will work closely with the Board of Directors and strategic investors to motivate the employees to achieve breakthroughs and help accelerate the restructuring process.
Nam shared his gratitude for the appointment and thanked the strategic investor and Bamboo Airways' Board of Directors for entrusting him with the opportunity to lead the airline during this crucial period of repositioning. He expressed confidence that Bamboo Airways' restructuring process will succeed through the cooperation and consensus of all the investors, directors, and employees.
"The process of restructuring Bamboo Airways has been taking place with a clear and focused direction. In my opinion, this is the most extensive, strategic, and far-reaching restructuring project ever undertaken in Vietnamese aviation history,” said Nam. “As the General Director, I am determined to give my best effort to successfully complete the assigned tasks, and contribute towards the prompt restructuring process. Our ultimate goal is to stabilize the operation and create opportunities for future growth. Among our first targets is to bring back the fleet size to 30 aircraft, and then aim to increase to 50 and beyond.”
The airline is expected to restructure its fleet in late 2023 and early 2023 with narrow-body aircraft and jets for key domestic routes. These aircraft will fly routes to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang. The carrier also said it will offer services on domestic tourist routes with high demand and international routes to Southeast Asia.
The press release stated that Bamboo Airways is working closely with Boeing and Airbus to implement previously agreed upon aircraft purchase agreements to increase its fleet in 2024 and beyond.
This expansion is a crucial part of the airline’s future growth, aligning with the major development milestones of Vietnam’s aviation, the press release said. The T3 Passenger Terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport is expected to open in 2025 and the Long Thanh International Airport is anticipated in 2026, both of which the airline reportedly plans to capitalize on for future developments.
