The AirFi LEO connectivity solution is set for takeoff in a three-month trial with Vietjet Air. Nguyen Thanh Hung, President of Sovico Group (Vietjet parent), Martijn Moret, AirFi Co-Founder and Board Member and Malachi Nordine, President of SKYTRAC, signed an MoU for the trial at the Singapore Air Show last week.

Guests and media were present for the signing including key industry members from Vietjet, the Trade Commissioner Service (Canada) and the British Columbia Trade and Investment Office.

“AirFi started twelve years ago as a company that want to digitize the cabin to make life better for the passengers as well as for the crew by offering airlines [solutions] that are overnight installation. In just this decade we become a market leader in portable Wi-Fi inside the cabin and we are immensely proud that we have found a partner in introducing connectivity. Today is very special for me because one of the biggest airlines in Asia has agreed to our trial proposition to bring connectivity not only to Vietjet, but also all the Vietnamese passengers,” said AirFi’s Martijn Moret at the signing.

AirFi said via LinkedIn that it looks forward to proving the value of its LEO solution alongside technology partners SKYTRAC.

“We are deeply grateful to Vietjet, an innovative airline with exciting plans for growth and a deep commitment to customer service excellence, for this opportunity. We would also like to extend our thanks to the federal and provincial trade bodies of Canada for supporting SKYTRAC and our signing event,” AirFi said in its post.

SKYTRAC’s Malachi Nordine also spoke at the official signing of the agreement at the Singapore Air Show this week.

“SKYTRAC is very honoured to be part of this innovative program to provide inflight connectivity to all airlines and passengers – the unique patented window-mounted antenna solution allows modification of the aircraft, which traditionally takes weeks and months, to be done overnight in a matter of hours. This is a significant differentiator and value add for airlines and of course AirFi’s service and solution,” Nordine said.

AirFi also thanked Jane Phan, Director, AirFi Asia Pacific, for her work on facilitating the project, in its social media announcement.
