One would have thought that London-New York would make the list as the world's busiest route. But it seems not. OAG, the global statistical recorder of all things aviation, reports that Kuala Lumpur-Singapore Changi is now the busiest route in the world, with nearly 5 million seats in 2023.

Although clearly one of the shortest at just less than one hour, it has knocked the top spot holder, Cairo-Jeddah, into second place with Hong Kong-Taipei in third. In fact, seven of the top 10 busiest international routes are in the Asia-Pacific region.

The infamous New York JFK-London Heathrow route is in eighth place with 3.9 million seats.

Asia also leads the busiest domestic traffic in 2023 with Jeju International-Seoul Gimpo at 13.7 million seats, and Sapporo New Chitose-Tokyo Haneda next with 11.9 million.

Asia-Pacific and Middle East routes also make up the top 10 busiest domestic routes globally, while the US's busiest domestic route was Honolulu-Kahului with 3.6 million seats. Atlanta-Orlando and LAX-LAS follow with about 3.5 million each.
