United expands Economy meal preorder to shorter flights

United Airlines has expanded its Economy meal preorder program to flights of more than 900 miles across North America and the Caribbean, lowering the previous threshold of more than 1,190 miles.

The change adds approximately 420 eligible flights per day, giving up to 65,000 additional passengers daily access to fresh food preorder. Newly eligible routes include Chicago–Houston, Denver–San Francisco and Houston–Washington, D.C.

“We want our customers to have more of what they value when they fly – more choice, more convenience and a better experience onboard,” said David Kinzelman, Chief Customer Officer, United Airlines.

Passengers can preorder fresh Bistro on Board meals and other eligible retail items through united.com or the United mobile app from five days until 24 hours before departure.

The menu rotates monthly, with current selections including a pork mojo burrito, Chicago patty melt by Jeff Mauro of Mauro Provisions, hot honey chicken and waffle sandwich and cinnamon apple waffle. Signature snackboxes and snacks are also available.

Passengers can browse selections in the website’s “Trips” section, while app users receive a notification when preordering opens for their flight. United notes that preordered meals may not be available under certain circumstances.

The airline will also refresh the contents of its Tapas, Takeoff and Recline snackboxes beginning November 1.
