gategroup opens new Cambodia facility

gategourmet Cambodia team members mark the opening of the new purpose-built facility at Techo International Airport
gategroup has opened a new purpose-built gategourmet facility at Techo International Airport (KTI), strengthening its catering operations in Cambodia.
The 3,100-square-meter facility supports 11 airline customers and has capacity to produce up to 15,000 meals per day. It became fully operational during the September 15 to 22 transition of catering activities to KTI, following the move from Phnom Penh International Airport.
Designed to support current airline requirements and future traffic growth, the facility brings culinary production, warehousing, equipment handling, transportation and logistics under one roof. Located approximately one kilometer from the aircraft parking stands, it enables efficient access to airport operations and reliable service delivery throughout the day.
Today, 135 employees work from the facility, supporting full-service and low-cost carriers.
Built around airline operations
The facility includes hot and cold kitchens, a bakery, preparation areas and warehousing, along with operational support for equipment handling, transportation, logistics coordination and onboard service requirements.
Operating 24 hours a day, the site has been designed to respond to changing airline schedules while maintaining the food safety, aviation security and quality standards required across gategroup’s global operations.
For Joerg Zaugg, General Manager Cambodia at gategroup, the opening marks both an operational milestone and the result of a coordinated transition by local teams.
“This new facility gives us the capacity, infrastructure and flexibility to support our airline customers as their operations develop at KTI,” said Zaugg. “Just as importantly, it reflects the commitment of our team in Cambodia, who managed a complex transition while maintaining continuity for our customers. It gives us a strong foundation for the next phase of our growth.”
Supporting regional growth
The opening follows gategroup’s previously announced investment in Cambodia, focused on stronger infrastructure, improved operational efficiency and greater flexibility for airline customers.
The transition to KTI was a key part of that plan. Moving an active catering operation to a new airport required close coordination to maintain service continuity while establishing new processes and workflows.
The new facility gives gategroup a stronger operational platform to support existing customers and pursue new business opportunities in Cambodia.
The investment also strengthens gategroup’s wider Asia-Pacific network. As the company continues to grow across the region, the Cambodia facility provides an additional platform to support customers in Southeast Asia.
Franck Bouat, CCO Asia Pacific and Managing Director Asia at gategroup, said Cambodia is an important part of the company’s regional strategy.
“Cambodia is an important success story for our regional network and a strong example of how we want to grow across Asia Pacific,” said Bouat. “This investment is not only about expanding our capabilities in one market. It demonstrates our commitment to Southeast Asia and our ambition to build a stronger, more connected network that allows us to grow alongside our airline customers across the region.”

Investing in local teams
The expanded operation also creates opportunities for local employment, training and talent development.
gategroup said long-term growth in Cambodia depends on infrastructure and capability, as well as building strong local teams. With more space, increased production capacity and room for further workforce expansion, the facility provides a scalable foundation for the next phase of its operations.
As Techo International Airport establishes itself as Cambodia’s new international gateway, gategroup said the investment positions its local teams to support airline customers as the market evolves, while strengthening the company’s wider presence across Southeast Asia.
