JAL launches deli service on short routes
Japan Airlines launched a new style of in-flight meal service, SKY DELI by JAL in Economy Class on its route Haneda Airport to Gimpo Airport in Korea starting June 30th.
The airline developed the new menu in response to passenger requests for meals that are delicious and easy to eat on a short route. The new in-flight meals are served in a cafe-style, allowing passengers to freely design their own in-flight experience. JAL’s original coffee supervised by Coffee Hunter José Y. Kawashima, will continue to be available along with the meal in a paper bag.
The airline is collaborating with Dean & DeLuca a select shop of food from New York. It is serving Dean & DeLuca’s popular "Donut Sandwich" arranged as an in-flight meal with potato chips.
In addition to the reduction of plastic containers, the use of paper packaging will reduce the weight of tableware and packaging by approximately 95 percent compared to conventional in-flight meals, resulting in a reduction of approximately 70 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
