Newrest to take majority share of Flight Delight Air Catering

By Rick Lundstrom

Newrest has signed an agreement to acquire 60 percent of Flight Delight Air Catering in Germany.

“The airline catering market in Germany has been a priority for Newrest Group for over two years,” said a release from Newrest. “Following the opening of its subsidiary in 2020, the group is focusing on the opening of new catering units in Berlin and Hamburg.”

Flight Delight Air Catering, founded by Michael Käfer, CEO of the Käfer Group, and Alexej Oberoi, CEO of Käfer Service GmbH, is operating out of Munich and Frankfurt and caters airlines such as Air Canada, China Airlines and LATAM. The new entity will be called Newrest Germany.

“To succeed in the German market, we needed a strong understanding of its labor and supplier dynamics as well as the Länders. With its roots in the Käfer group, which brings over 90 years of existence in this market and a well-established reputation that goes beyond Germany, Flight Delight Air Catering is the ideal partner for us” said Olivier Sadran, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Newrest Group.

For Alexej Oberoi, founder and CEO of Flight Delight Air Catering, “To thrive in inflight catering activities, a strong network is critical. We have the ambition with Newrest Group to grow our presence in Germany to other cities such as Stuttgart and Hannover to name a few. We want international airlines to have a competitive and recognized alternative in Germany”.

"We have succeeded in transferring our long-standing motto 'A Passion for Quality' to airline catering in a very short time and have convinced renowned customers of our concept. In cooperation with Newrest Group as a strong logistics partner, we can continue to drive our growth and use valuable synergies" adds Michael Käfer.
