Emirates marks Oktoberfest with Bavarian fare

By Rick Lundstrom

Paulaner is one of six breweries serving at the Munich Oktoberfest and will be poured in the Onboard Lounge on Emirates

Emirates will be serving its passengers Bavarian specialties to celebrate Oktoberfest from September 21 to October 6 on flights between Dubai and Germany.

First Class and Business Class passengers will also have the opportunity to clink their glasses with original Oktoberfest beer in the Onboard Lounge of the Emirates A380. Paulaner - one of six breweries serving beer at the Munich Oktoberfest - is served in traditional stone and classic beer mugs. Bavarian snacks will be available at the bar to accompany the beer, including gingerbread hearts, pretzels with sweet mustard, Liptauer and Obatzter, as well as various hearty sandwiches.

Emirates' premium classes will have a regionally inspired menu. During the first half of the Oktoberfest, Nuremberg chicken sausages with mashed potatoes and sour cabbage will be served, while Leberkaese with fried egg and fried potatoes in First Class. Leberkaese with sour cabbage and pan-fried potatoes in Business Class will be offered during the second half. Warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce will be served as dessert. On flights from Germany to Dubai, passengers will enjoy braised beef with red cabbage and potato dumplings.

For those traveling in Economy Class on flights from Dubai to Germany, Emirates serves Leberkaese with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes on request and a piece of Bienenstich for dessert. On routes from Germany to Dubai, passengers can choose between two typical dishes: Beef with caraway sauce and Knöpfle or Nuremberg grilled sausages with sauerkraut.
