South African Airways (SAA) celebrated the opening of the international lounge at OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) this week. According to the November 13 press release, The Lounge is designed around passenger comfort in the air and on the ground.

The opening of The lounge is the first, following a line up of lounge renovations operated by SAA. The First Class Platinum lounge is scheduled for renovation in early 2024, followed by refurbishments of the Qheberha, Cape Town, OR Tambo Domestic and Durban lounges.

In partnership with Discovery and Investec, The Lounge features upgraded comforts where passengers can enjoy connectivity and comfort, as well as contemporary design furniture and a curated local art collection.

Passengers can choose to sit with a view over the airport ramp or work in a focus booth while spending time in The Lounge. There is also a quiet zone for relaxation. The space was designed to accommodate everything from meetings to family travel.

The Lounge at OR Tambo International Airport offers a buffet dining menu al day. There is a bar with trained baristas and mixologists offering coffee, cocktails, mocktails or fine South African wines and bubbly, plus La Marzocco coffee machines. For passengers who enjoy a good cup of coffee, the SAA Lounge team is trained in brewing techniques and creating various types of coffee.

South African Airways attributed the opening of The Lounge and its comfortable passenger experience to its partners: “Much attention has been placed on providing travellers with unparalleled experiences and increasing our focus on the customer experience, made possible by our partners Discovery and Investec in transforming our lounges.”

The Lounge is part of South African Airways' vision to secure a place as a leading airline carrier in the world.
