Emirates Economy & Premium Economy Class Amenity Kits with United for Wildlife 2023

Passengers flying in Emirates Premium Economy and Economy class on long haul flights will now receive complimentary amenity kits. These kits were designed in partnership with United for Wildlife and highlight eight of the world’s most endangered animals.

Emirates has a long standing partnership with United for Wildlife and this new collaboration is part of the airline’s efforts to preserve wildlife under the Emirates Environmental Sustainability Framework. The goal of the kit’s design is to raise awareness about endangered species and the prevention of illegal trade of animal products.

The animals featured on products in the amenity kits are among the most trafficked in the world, including the green sea turtle, the African elephant, the blue macaw, the gorilla, the hammerhead shark, the lion, the pangolin, and the black rhino.

According to United for Wildlife, there are 100 elephants poached daily, putting them on track for extinction by 2025 at the current rates. This is just one example of the endangered species Emirates hopes to draw attention to by introducing its new amenity kits.

"The illegal wildlife trade is international organized crime that is driving many iconic species around the world towards extinction at an alarming rate. Airlines and other transport operators have a huge role to play in disrupting the traffickers’ supply chains,” said David Fein, Co-Chair of United for Wildlife. “Emirates have consistently demonstrated leadership and commitment in tackling this global threat. We are delighted to see the new amenity kits from Emirates now onboard and hope that passengers find them informative and inspiring."

The airline is also a member of the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce and has a zero tolerance policy regarding the illegal trade of wildlife and wildlife products. According to an October 11 press release, Emirates’ freight arm, Emirates SkyCargo, has put a complete ban on the transport of hunting trophies. The airline also noted it achieved IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Stage One and the IEnvA Illegal Wildlife Trade module certifications in June 2023.

Furthering its sustainability and wildlife preservation initiatives, Emirates' new amenity kit is reusable and made from washable kraft paper. The animal prints on the pouches are made of non-toxic, soy-based ink. Other items in the kit, like socks and eyeshades, are made from recycled plastics (rPET [recycled polyethylene terephthalate]). The airline will also reintroduce earplugs to these amenity kits later this year.
