Emirates unveils U-Dream headrest for Economy Class

Emirates’ U-Dream headrest uses adjustable padded side wings to provide added neck and head support for Economy Class passengers

Emirates is introducing the U-Dream headrest, a multi-way adjustable seat feature designed to improve sleep and relaxation for Economy Class passengers.

The airline says it is the first to introduce the headrest, which provides neck and head support through padded, flexible leather side wings that fold inward to cradle the passenger. The headrest can also move vertically and tilt to suit different heights and body types.

Developed as part of Safran Seats’ Z400 Economy Class seat, the U-Dream headrest has been independently tested to meet European Union Aviation Safety Agency safety standards. Emirates said the feature is intended to provide ergonomic support more commonly associated with premium cabins.

"Emirates never rests on its laurels when it comes to customer experience and we have found a way to significantly improve the comfort for Economy Class passengers, especially those traveling long-haul. The U-Dream changes the game if the person wants to sleep – by supporting the neck in full. No more neck pillows needed. It is another innovation that shows our commitment to customers and cements our Economy Class as the best,” said Tim Clark, President, Emirates Airline.

The headrest is currently installed on three A350 aircraft. Emirates plans to complete installation across its A350 fleet by the end of the year, while the feature will come pre-installed on all 270 777X aircraft ordered by the carrier. Installation on retrofitted A380s and 777s is scheduled to begin from 2027.
