ZIM Aircraft Seating’s “The Frame” Premium Economy

ZIM Aircraft Seating Group has introduced the latest generation of its Premium Economy seat, The Frame, at this year’s show, highlighting a blend of lightweight engineering, sustainable materials and enhanced passenger comfort.

Designed to meet evolving airline demands, The Frame is 15 percent lighter than comparable seats on the market, reducing weight by eight kilograms per passenger. This lightweight architecture supports lower fuel burn and reduced emissions, aligning with airline sustainability goals.

A defining feature of the seat is its use of wooden structural elements, creating a warm, contemporary aesthetic while reducing reliance on plastics. The incorporation of renewable, recyclable and reusable materials reflects a shift toward circular design principles in cabin interiors.

Passenger comfort is addressed through a newly developed kinematic system that enables smoother, more intuitive recline motion. The seat also offers optional electric actuation, supported by a weight-optimized mechanism, allowing airlines to enhance comfort without compromising efficiency.

Innovative mesh structures further improve the passenger experience by delivering long-term pressure distribution, adaptive flexibility and pressure relief. An upgraded, fully adjustable headrest maximizes personal space and supports a relaxed seating position throughout the journey.

Beyond comfort and sustainability, The Frame is engineered for operational efficiency. Its modular design allows for quick interchangeability, enabling airlines to implement upgrades, redesigns and midlife refreshes with minimal downtime. Durable materials and reduced dependency on specialized components also help shorten lead times and lower lifecycle costs.

“When developing new products, our objective is always to combine lightweight engineering with sustainable materials, advanced comfort, and aesthetic refinement,” said CEO Raffael Rogg in the release. “The Frame is a testament to this commitment. It elevates the Premium Economy experience while providing airlines with a highly efficient, future-ready solution.”
