SEKISUI KYDEX showcases next-generation sustainable material at AIX 2026

KYDEX® ECO™ 6565HI
SEKISUI KYDEX is presenting its latest material innovation at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2026, introducing KYDEX ECO 6565HI, a next-generation thermoplastic designed to advance sustainability in aviation interiors without compromising safety or performance.
On display at stand 5D40, the material reflects a growing industry focus on measurable environmental impact, as OEMs and designers seek solutions that align sustainability goals with certification requirements and aesthetic flexibility.
Developed using comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data, KYDEX ECO 6565HI is engineered to deliver quantifiable environmental benefits while meeting stringent aviation standards. The formulation incorporates renewable raw materials and eco-conscious alternatives, resulting in an eight percent reduction in Global Warming Potential and a 195 percent lower acidification potential compared to traditional KYDEX6565 materials.
Purpose-built for aircraft interiors, the material exceeds low heat release requirements and is compliant with FAR 25.853, including 65/65 heat release and 180 smoke development standards. It can be used as a standalone material or in bonded constructions, offering flexibility across a range of cabin applications.
In addition to its environmental credentials, KYDEX ECO 6565HI is designed to enhance passenger safety. Its controlled deformation properties support Head Injury Criterion (HIC) requirements, making it suitable for impact-critical zones within the cabin.
The material features an antimony-free formulation, supporting more stable sourcing, and is fully recyclable. Enhanced mechanical performance and impact resistance further position it as a viable solution for next-generation aircraft interiors.
Design flexibility remains a key component of the offering. With Infused Imaging, custom colour development and decorative textures available, the material allows CMF designers to maintain brand identity without additional coatings. It also meets FAA policy requirements for colour substantiation in integrally coloured thermoplastics, enabling streamlined certification processes.
“Sustainability must be measurable,” says Sean Stabler, Vice President of Innovation at SEKISUI KYDEX. “By combining decades of formulation expertise with verified Life Cycle Assessment data, we’ve developed a solution that supports environmental goals while meeting rigorous FAA performance standards.”
Kellie Walter, Aviation Market Business Manager, added that the development reinforces the company’s commitment to both safety and design innovation, giving designers greater flexibility while maintaining compliance.
At AIX 2026, SEKISUI KYDEX is inviting attendees to explore how sustainability, performance and design can coexist through its thermoplastics portfolio, as the industry continues to prioritize responsible material innovation.
