ANA has selected Recaro’s R3 Economy seating and R4 Premium Economy for its 787-9 cabins

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has extended its 35-year relationship with Recaro Aircraft Seating with the selection of the new R3 Economy Class and R4 Premium Class seats, designed specifically for its next-generation 787-9 cabins on international routes.

The R4 premium class seats is designed with the latest technology and ergonomics to provide the highest level of comfort and usability. The seat pitch has been increased by 2 inches (approximately five centimetres) to 40 inches (approximately 101cm) - one of the highest in global standards. The new seat reclines two inches ( five centimetres) more than the conventional seat making the total recline to nine inches (approximately 23 centimetres) to allow passengers to relax even on long-haul flights.

The R3 economy class seat has a pitch of 33 to 34 inches (84 to 86 centimetres) and the space around the knees has been redesigned to provide an additional one inch (2.5 centimetres) of space, which is the largest standard in the Economy Class.

Similar to premium economy class, the seat recline has been increased by two inches, 1.5 times the previous seat space for improved comfort. The latest touch-screen monitor has been adopted to reduce weight.

Both the R3 and R4 seats are equipped with USB-C charging ports and, for the first time, Bluetooth connectivity.

“ANA is committed to continually elevating the passenger experience and the new seats represent our ongoing investment in providing customers with greater comfort and convenience on our international flights,” said Tomoji Ishii, Executive Vice President, Customer Experience Management and Planning of ANA. “We will continue to seek out and implement innovative solutions to enhance every aspect of the passenger journey with ANA.”

ANA will introduce the R3 and R4 seats on its next-generation long-haul international aircraft, with deployment scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2026. In total 19 aircraft will be fitted out with the new seats, 16 retrofitted and three linefit.
