Collins Aerospace introduced the Helix™ main cabin seat for narrowbody aircraft at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX). Helix is designed to reduce weight compared to previous generations of Economy Class seats while maintaining passenger comfort and maximizing living space.

“Helix seating was developed with three key pillars in mind: comfort, reliability and sustainability,” said Christophe Blanc, Vice President and General Manager of Aircraft Seating at Collins Aerospace. “The contemporary design increases passenger living space and under-seat stowage, while the seat back is optimized to accommodate a greater number of integrated inflight entertainment (IFE) solutions, literature pockets and full-sized meal trays.

The seat offers weight savings over similar Economy Class seats due to the high strength-to-weight composite materials and design. The reduction in weight can also lower the associated fuel burn and carbon emissions, the press release said.

The frame design for varying seatback angles strives for longer-lasting comfort while also improving cushion integration.

Collins is currently speaking with various airline customers to bring the Helix main cabin seat to narrowbody fleets, the company said.
