RECARO Aircraft Seating has showcased its latest sustainability and innovation initiatives at AIX 2023, as well as the newest addition to its portfolio, the PL3810 premium class seat.

The Recaro Innovation Station included a combination of smart technology and sustainability initiatives. The “R Horizon” concept featured a business class seat with integrated smart cabin technology, which could be experienced and tried first-hand by booth guests. Outfitted with a new trim and finish of wood and marble, the R Horizon is created in collaboration with partners from various industries.

The sustainability concept at the booth focused on the rigorous life cycle assessment of Recaro seats, which is an extensive process used to build more environmentally-friendly products, end-to-end. Built as a result of a recent life cycle assessment, the “R Sphere” seat concept was created with lightweight and recyclable materials such as cork, wood, fishing nets and cactus. The goal of the project is to develop a model to collect and track feedback that will be used to make future Recaro products more sustainable.

The newest addition to the company’s portfolio is the PL3810 premium seat for widebdy aircraft. The PL3810 is the result of comprehensive market and observational research, as well as global trends.

Passengers can take advantage of the single-plate table, 4.5- inch center armrest, a six-way adjustable headrest, a nine-inch recline with articulation, and calf-rest. Another major part of the seat’s design are the privacy wings, which further enhance the living space and ties back to the need for passengers to “own their space.” Weighing 10% lighter than its predecessor gives an airline more cabin flexibility and saving on fuel costs, while making their fleet more sustainable.

Also on display were the CL3810 economy class seat, the CL6720 business class seat, and the newest version of the SPRINT seat, which gives airlines an eight-week turnaround period between order and delivery. “With each seat order we receive, from economy to business class, Recaro is tasked with helping airlines build a better passenger experience,” said Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding in a June 6 press release. “AIX is an important part of that process, as we greatly value the feedback on our seats that we receive from our partners, customers and suppliers.”

Additionally, a new competency also highlighted at the booth was a front row monument, which can be built in-house at Recaro’s competence center composites, AAT Composites, in South Africa.
