Finnair flying with drop-in LED mood lighting from Cobalt Aerospace

By Alex Preston

Cobalt Aerospace is upgrading Finnair's fleet of A330 aircraft with drop-in LED mood lighting

Cobalt Spectrum drop-in LED mood lighting has been installed as part of a project to refresh and upgrade Finnair’s A330 fleet.

Designed and manufactured by Cobalt Aerospace, the LED mood lighting system will illuminate the interior of each A330 aircraft with the Finnair brand colours, alongside additional light settings for boarding, meal services, sleeping and waking, and more. Passengers will also be able to enjoy a spectacular light display inspired by the Northern Lights.

A true “plug and play” system, Cobalt Spectrum is a direct replacement for existing fluorescent tubes and requires no changes to aircraft wiring. Designed to be lightweight and long-lasting, Cobalt Spectrum offers operators significant weight and fuel savings.

Finland’s flag carrier airline has now installed the mood lighting throughout seven aircraft, with the remaining A330 to follow within the next year.

“We’re thrilled that Finnair has chosen Cobalt Spectrum to help revitalise the lighting in their A330 cabins. The Finnair team will benefit from operational improvements, with passengers enjoying an improved travel experience. I am sure that Finnair customers will be “wowed” by experiencing the Aurora inside the aircraft!” commented Dan Rust, Head of Design at Cobalt Aerospace in a June 6 press release.

This collaboration with Finnair has been approved under Cobalt Aerospace’s own Design Organisation Approval (DOA).

Dan continues; “this is one of many large Cobalt Spectrum installations which we have worked on over the last year. Having our own DOA has been crucial to ensuring we deliver our products promptly, to the meticulous quality standard customers expect.”
