Etihad Engineering restores A380 for Etihad Airways' service
Etihad Engineering has successfully completed a comprehensive six-year heavy maintenance check on the first A380 aircraft, marking its return to service after being securely stored on the ground.
The airline’s state-of-the-art aviation MRO facility in Abu Dhabi played a crucial role in preparing the A380 for its comeback, including the removal, inspection, and installation of the entire aircraft cabin, featuring various luxurious seating options.
“The Etihad Engineering team has built formidable experience and expertise over the years on the A380 platform, having carried out the world’s first 12-year check on an A380 as well as complex structural modifications, landing gear changes, cabin refurbishment and numerous heavy maintenance programs for customers from Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and the Far East,” said Haytham Nasir, Senior Vice President of Airframe Services, Etihad Engineering, in a July 18 press release.
The maintenance check also encompassed crucial modifications, engine servicing and inspections of sophisticated components.
Etihad Engineering collaborated closely with Etihad, Airbus, and other suppliers to ensure the aircraft’s delivery met the highest standards. The company is also expanding its capacity by constructing two new widebody hangars on-site.
David Doherty, Vice President of Commercial, added in the same release, “The Etihad Airways A380 fleet features one of the most luxurious, award-winning guest experiences and we are as excited as the airline in bringing the aircraft back to the skies this summer. We have delivered the first A380 of the Etihad Airways re-entry into service program and work has begun on the next input in the nose-to-tail project at our facility.”
