Refitted regional fleet completes Austrian Airlines' new look

By Rick Lundstrom

More than 2,000 seats have been replaced in Austrian's Fokker 70 and 100 aircraft

All the seats in the regional fleet have been fitted with leather upholstery. A total of 1,064 seats have been upgraded with the new leather covers on the airline’s 14 aircraft in the Dash 8-400 fleet. The entire Fokker fleet, which includes eight Fokker 70s and 15 Fokker 100s, have also been refitted, with 2,055 new leather seats.

“Bright green is yesterday’s look. An elegant gray is today,” Karsten Benz, Chief Commercial Officer at Austrian Airlines. “Our new design places us way ahead in customer surveys. The new cabin combines modern design with comfort.”

The airline began modernizing its cabins in 2011 with the aircraft of the A320 family, in the new “Europa” look. The core element in the new cabin was the completely redeveloped seat in a lightweight construction. Since August the Austrian long-haul fleet of six 767s and four 777s, has also been flying with a new cabin.

The new look for long-haul includes a new in-flight entertainment system for non-stop entertainment on demand throughout the cabin, and Vantage Business Class seats from Thompson Aero that can be transformed into full-flat beds.
